Our decking is smooth faced one side and castellated the other. It can be fitted with either face facing upwards depending on your requirements.

Being a hardwood with a Class 2 durability rating can be left untreated, but will easily take a good quality decking oil. Many people like to enhance the natural look and feel of Balau by oiling it. Please see please see our accessories page.

One of the most popular hardwood timbers for decking within the UK. It's natural resistant to rot, insect damage, and warping makes Balau a good choice for the UK climate. Installed properly it will give you a low maintenance decking which can withstand the elements for many years.

A strong timber which can support heavy loads and a high foot traffic, reddish-brown in appearance it can add warmth and character to your outdoor space. A very dense straight grained hardwood timber with few knots perfect for all exterior decking.

Key Points

What is Yellow Balau?

Commonly just called Balau, is produced from trees of Shorea species that are mostly found in Southeast Asian regions. Its other name is Bangkirai.

What can I use Balau for?

Decking, cladding, flooring, structural timber, building ship, barrels, etc.

Durability

Class 2 for durability - the natural high oil content (similar to teak) gives it resistance against insects, extreme weather, warping and twisting.

Hardness

Janka Hardness of 1,600 lbf (7,120 N) - Hard

Sustanability

Our Balau is FSC, SVLK - Indonesia’s Timber Legality Assurance system, and FLEGT - a Organisation to combat illegal logging.
