Balau is a straight grained dense hardwood timber with few knots, good durability, and resistant to insects making it the ideal natural product for internal flooring. It can be left untreated or treated please see our accessories page.

Our Balau is FSC, SVLK - Indonesia’s Timber Legality Assurance system, and FLEGT - a Organisation to combat illegal logging.

Production

We select the finest kiln dried boards, planed to ensure exacting dimension, then fine sanded with 120 grit sandpaper to produce a finish that feels warm and smooth underfoot.

Finishing

The finished boards can have a treatment applied, we recommend Osmo Hardwax-Oil, information please click here (opens in a new window) which is a extremely durable and hard wearing product, resistant to common liquid spillages such as water, juice, tea, cola and wine. It will enhances the wood’s natural character and is microporous giving a breathable finish which does not crack, peel or flake. Moisture content of timber flooring

We manufacture our products with a moisture content of between 9 and 14%. This actually means that approximately 10% of the wood is water and is well suited to homes in the UK.

We offer our flooring with a square or tongue and grove edge, they are priced the same, please specify when ordering. Both are supplied untreated and can be stained and finished with standard hardwood varnishes, oils or waxes (Please see Our Accessories page). It is a great alternative to oak and pressure treated softwood decking.

Co2 Stacking Bearers are planed uniformed in size measuring 20mm X 20mm X 800mm we recommend they should be placed no more than 750mm apart and you will get 5 floor boards per layer. £0.76 per bearing ex VAT and delivery, just add them to your order. For example 40 floor board would require 32 stacking bearers.
